First Presbyterian Church's LOGOS Program

Logos-LogoTransparentOur program begins September 12, 2007 and will run until April/May 2008 every Wednesday evening from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. for students in the 1st through 12th grades.   For those students needing to come straight from school, there will be a homework and snack time before LOGOS begins.  Transportation will be provided as needed.  The LOGOS Program will run in accordance with the Rutherford County School System Calendar.

Cost for the program is $125 for your child ($75 per additional child) to participate in Bible Study, Recreation, Worship Skills and Family Time (Dinner - Full/hot meal served family style at tables with "Table Parents" where we engage the children in conversation abut themselves, their families, their school day and what we've done at LOGOS that evening).

WHAT IS LOGOS?

LOGOS is an after-school ministry where adults, youth, and children learn to model Christ to each other in everything they do - where everyone is a child of God, and no one is treated as if they don't matter.

The LOGOS Program is the theology and practice of Christian relationships in a disciplined, midweek, four-part context.

The Program creates an arena in which young people and adults experience living together in Christian community.

· LOGOS is in more than 1500 churches and 20 denominations.
· LOGOS is in 47 states and 4 different countries. (USA, Canada, Belarus, Russia)
· LOGOS has more than 30,000 youth and children and 12,000 adults meeting every week.
· And it's been happening for over 40 years!

The 4 Parts of the LOGOS Program

Bible Study

The goal of Bible study is to nurture youth and children into intelligent, obedient, and biblically-informed discipleship.

In grade level groups, each class uses a curriculum that is appropriate to their age group.

Recreation/Play Time

The Goal of Recreation/Play Time is to experience great fun at the expense of no one else.
Young people participate in active play, do crafts, or experience the sharing of a hobby or special interest by a member of the congregation. When we reveal ourselves in play, we strengthen friendships and when conflicts occur, we practice our theology.

Family Time

The Goal of Family Time is to provide a joyous, intergenerational celebration of personhood over a shared meal as we experience being the family of God.

Young people are assigned to tables along with one or two adults who act as "table parents." The group around the table becomes a family as they share meals together during the year. Food is served family style. Conversation is purposeful. Birthdays are celebrated.

Worship Skills

The Goal of Worship Skills is to develop responsibility for and practice in worship skills because worship is our primary service to God as disciples.
Worship is essential and central to the Christian community.  In Worship Skills young people learn about worship and prepare to lead in the Sunday morning service of worship. Often this is done through a singing choir. Other times bell choir, speaking choir or drama are included.
